Liz MIller

Liz Miller creates elaborate installations and drawings that are abstract narratives incorporating pieces of reality. Her work explores the tensions between fact and fiction and dimensionality and flatness, complicating the line between fantasy and reality. She utilizes surface pattern and tactility to camouflage recognizable forms.

Miller received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA from the University of Minnesota. In 2013, she received a McKnight Professional Development Grant from Forecast Public Art. She was the recipient of the 2011-12 McKnight Foundation Fellowship for Visual Artists and the 2011 Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant. She is the Professor of Installation and Drawing at Minnesota State University-Mankato. Miller’s installations and works on paper have been featured in solo and group exhibitions regionally, nationally and internationally.

During her residency, Miller will be a visiting artist at the UNC Charlotte College of Arts + Architecture. She will work directly with students from a mixed media/print media class (led by alumni artists Erik Waterkotte and Maja Godlewska) to research, develop, collaborate, and execute an original, site-specific installation to be exhibited in the Rowe Gallery later this fall semester.

Liz Miller is an artist-in-residence in partnership with UNC Charlotte. Her artist residency is generously supported by the Windgate Charitable Fund.
