UPTOWN SKYLINE, A NEW PERSPECTIVE

Past Affiliate Artist, Oliver Lewis has been diligently working on a project commissioned by Charlotte Center City Partners for First Night Charlotte, recreating the city skyline large enough for visitors to interact with the city in new way on New Year’s Eve.
Using an alternate printmaking process, Lewis has created a “chemical cocktail” that allows him to develop photographs on wood using heat and fire, "I can photograph the buildings in Uptown and burn them onto sheets of plywood at temperatures ranging from 800 to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit.” Lewis goes on to say, “Two parallels formed while I was a resident at the McColl Center for Visual Art, an interest in photography and the reemergence of my lost past as a research chemist."
Want to see it in person? Come out to First Night Charlotte in Uptown for New Year’s Eve.
