Current resident Sharon Dowell has an upcoming exhibition in the 7th Street Windows in Uptown Charlotte where she will showcase a large series of individual paintings that represent Charlotte residents and their favorite memory. Each portrait will use the individual’s memory to fuel the portrait’s overall tone and character, infusing unique colors and textures based on the stories told.

To participate, send Sharon your portrait via email to sharondowell@gmail.com prior to August 22, 2011 along with your name and favorite memory. Or schedule a time when you can stop by her studio so she can take your portrait and transcribe your memory! A limited amount of portraits will be created, so submit soon!

Sharon Dowell Artist Statement:
My work captures the energy of place, the economic boom and downturn, and explores the theme of man vs. nature. I am interested in the documentation of memory and strive to find beauty in often overlooked structures and spaces. I incorporate the energy, the tension, and the emotions felt in the environment, from the instant when my feet were planted on the street, in a field, or on the edge of a balcony. At times, commentaries on the changing environment and political or social references surface in the work.
