We welcome the public to join us Friday, September 23 from 6 to 9 PM for an Opening Reception as McColl Center for Visual Art celebrates the arrival of our newest resident artists and exhibit.

With over 5,000 square feet of gallery space to explore, visitors will be welcomed and inspired by "Elements" featuring the works of Carrie Becker and Michael Gayk and their graceful and poetic use of materials and form. Grab a $1 beer and then find your way to the 2nd and 3rd floors to see works on display from our Fall Artists-in-Residence (listed below) and to meet all nine of our current resident artists in their studios.

So mark your calendars and tell your friends, then join us and our artists at McColl Center for Visual Art. Admission and parking are free. Cash bar. Tell us to expect you and RSVP on Facebook!

Carrie Becker
Photography, Sculpture / St. Louis, M.O.
Through the manipulation of fabric, Carrie M. Becker’s soft sculpture forms can be likened to many invisible things that are around us made large and visible: germs, microbes, dust and spores.

Michaela Pilar Brown, Gantt Center Artist-in-Residence
Photography, Installation, Film, Performance / Winnsboro, SC
Creating provocative installations and performances inspired by history, childhood memories and African-American cultural icons, Michaela Pilar Brown documents staged events through dreamlike film and photography often using herself, family and friends as the models.

Kathy Bruce, Environmental Artist-in-Residence
Sculpture, Installation / New York, NY
Kathy Bruce creates site-specific sculpture and installation projects that explore archetypal female forms within the context of environmental issues. These works incorporate allusions to symbols of women from the earliest civilizations interpreted and placed in a contemporary, public context within nature.

Brian Scott Cambell
Drawing / Brooklyn, NY
Using drawings as a fever dream of recalled or lost memories, Brian Scott Campbell’s landscapes serve as a reflection upon the desire for escape, future longing and the aesthetics of false utopias found in contemporary life.

Susan Lee-Chun, Knight Artist-in-Residence
Performance, Installation / Miami, FL
Fascinated with the power of humor and its capacity to grab the attention of a wider audience, Susan Lee-Chun employs a tongue-in-cheek style that incorporates video, sculpture, installation and performance.

Allyson Packer
Installation, Drawing, Performance, Video / Raleigh, NC
Using a variety of media, including video and installation, Allyson Packer’s artwork often reflects a lonely and obsessive process, while still referencing common anxieties about the importance of the individual in a vast universe.

Shelia Turner, Levine Artist-in-Residence
Photography, Columbus, GA
Intent on changing the way in which people perceive reality, Shelia Turner uses photography as a tool for social commentary to address the effects of television and media on African- American identity and urban contemporary life.
