While learning the basics as well as the next level of experience, students can also acquire an understanding of the field's history. In addition to gaining access to the Center's studio facilities, they will have the opportunity to visit artists-in-residence in their studios, which may impart an awareness that art exists outside of the classroom. Courses are taught by local artists and last for one week. On the final day of camp, the Center will hold a reception for the young artists to exhibit their work, a fun experience to be shared among family and friends!
This year, SAI has added a number of new courses to the curriculum aimed to suit every artistic interest. From fashioning accessories in "Create It + Wear It!" to creating digitally-enriched images in "Digital Photography" (to name a few), the Center's SAI team is sure to inspire creativity, as well as a fun experience. SAI is also introducing some new and exciting full-day camps designed to engage students with other institutions in the community. In partnership with the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, the Center is offering classes like "Painting Explorations: Pop Culture" and "Sculpture: Mosaics and Clay." Additionally, SAI is launching classes like "Art-in-Motion," a combined project with Discovery Place, and "Performing a Painting," a collaborative effort with North Carolina Dance Theatre. McColl Center for Visual Art is very excited to commence these new programs withing the community and anticipate a lot of creative success!
