McColl Center for Visual Art is always seeking volunteers to help out with special events, artist outreaches, educational programs, and day-to-day office tasks.  There are many different types of opportunities available, and people of all ages (16+) and backgrounds are encouraged to get involved!


INTERNSHIPS

Summer 2012

The Center is now accepting applications for Summer 2012 internships.  Depending on departmental needs, internships may be available in the following areas:

•   Residencies & Exhibitions
•   External Affairs (encompasses Development, Communications & Marketing, and Visitor Relations)
•   Video
•   Education
•   Finance/Accounting
•   Archives

SAI VOLUNTEERS

The Center’s Summer Arts Institute is a series of week-long art classes for children in 1st – 8th grades.  Summer 2012 volunteers will be needed to assist with a range of functions, including classroom set-up/clean-up, general administrative duties, and assistance with the care and management of participating children.  Volunteers must be comfortable working with children and will ideally be able to commit to multiple weeks of service (one week minimum).  Edward McCray at emccray@mccollcenter.org


DOCENTS

Docents at McColl Center for Visual Art are more than just tour guides – they have the opportunity to create a transformative experience by actively engaging visitors of all ages with our artists and exhibits.  Candidates for the Docent Program should possess the following qualifications: 

• A background in art, art history, or a similar field
• An ability to speak articulately to groups of various ages and backgrounds and to successfully engage visitors in dialogue
• A friendly, welcoming demeanor
• An enthusiasm for the mission and guiding principles of the Center

Docents must commit to an initial series of training sessions as well as ongoing training updates for each new season of artists/exhibits.
