Explore diverse arts, science, and history experiences at McColl Center and across Charlotte-Mecklenburg for free during ASC’s Connect with Culture Days. We’ll have hands-on art making activities happening all day long—no art experience necessary!

Blind contour drawing
10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., First-floor studio
You’re invited to draw blind contour portraits of other people or objects. What are blind contour portraits? It’s drawing a portrait of someone or something without lifting your pencil off or looking down at the paper. It’s fun!

Watercolor demo
12:00–3:00 p.m, Studio 219, second floor
Artist-in-residence Carmella Jarvi’s welcomes you to her studio for a hands-on watercolor demonstration. Learn about her work and techniques for abstract paintings and create your own watercolor masterpiece.

12:00–1:30 p.m, Dickson Gallery, first floor
Alumni artist Jon Prichard performs an original movement piece in costume and created specifically for Connect with Culture Days.

Piano concert
11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m, Studio 316, third floor
Artist-in-residence and composer/pianist Michael Harrison performs with UNC Charlotte’s Jessica Lindsey (clarinet) and other special guests. Original music to be performed include Harrison’s solo pieces “India Blue,” “Malkauns Tarana,” and “In Flight.”

How to get here and where to park
We’re at 721 N. Tryon St. in Uptown Charlotte. Plenty of free parking is available on N. Tryon St. and in the lot at the corner of W. 10th St. and N. Church St. (behind Charlotte Ballet).
