Last night, artist Laurie Smithwick led an art workshop in Charlotte here at McColl Center on gelatin monoprinting—an easy, uncomplicated, and fun way for anyone to explore printmaking without a press.
Participants used Smithwick’s guidance, techniques, handmade stencils, found materials, and layering to create beautiful figurative and abstract prints. No experience was necessary to get creative and make some art.

Workshop participant Emily Harris posted on Instagram, along with photos of her prints:
“First time ever trying print making. Couldn’t have been in better hands than @upsideup and @mccollcenter! What a treat!”
