In our commitment to serving artists, McColl Center has expanded our Artist-in-residence program. The Catalyst Artist-in-Residence invites nationally acclaimed artists in advanced places in their careers to complete specific projects or to explore new work throughout the year. Functioning independently of our traditional program’s timeline, Catalyst artists can spend between 1-6 months working at McColl Center and connecting with local artists and the Charlotte community.
The inaugural Catalyst Artist-in-Residence is multi-media artist William Cordova. Based in Miami, New York and Lima, Peru, Cordova’s work has been motivated by a creative engagement in architecture, geometry and history. These are essential components in the personal life and work that have shaped Cordova's world view. Cordova’s installation, drawing, and sculpture practice is inspired by Afro-Peruvian culture, western art, urban aesthetics, and popular culture.
