Bugs On The Radio

Charlotte’s NPR news source WFAE produced a story about McColl Center for Art + Innovation Environmental Artist-in-Residence Brandon Ballengée’s sculptures, Love Motels for Insects—recently installed at the Brightwalk community near uptown in Charlotte.

“Ballengée calls the project “Love Motels for Insects” because bugs are attracted to the glowing blue light and will come to mate here. Things like beetles and moths, not mosquitoes or ticks. It’s kind of like those old bug zappers but in reverse.”

The story aired locally during both of NPR’s signature news programs, Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
