Dignicraft, a collective of media producers and ceramic artists based in Tijuana, wrapped up their residency as Windgate Artists-in-Residence here at McColl Center for Art + Innovation in December of 2014.
The artwork and awareness of the rich Purépecha pottery tradition in Mexico that they left us with continues to benefit both Charlotte and communities in Mexico.
“We believe that with the right circumstances, creativity flourishes and connections between people can happen,” says Jose Luis Figueroa, a member of Dignicraft. “The Encuentros/Encounters exhibition is an abstraction of that dynamic, of that encounter that happened amongst many people [during our residency].”

“What inspires us is human dignity, social justice, and the artisanal way of creation,” adds Dignicraft’s Omar Foglio.
The inspired works of art in the Encuentros/Encounters exhibition in our Dickson Gallery are on view and available for purchase through March 20, 2015. All sales support Dignicraft’s commitment to community and the preservation of the rich Purépecha cultural heritage.
Come by McColl Center for a visit on Thursdays from 5:00-9:00 pm, or Fridays and Saturdays from 12:00-5:00 pm.
