Annie Heisel

“My work captures the fleeting moment of suspended breath, the split-second pause between inhalation and exhalation.”

Annie Heisel is an interdisciplinary artist who explores the metaphysical depths of matter and its intricate relationship with time, emphasizing entropy through large sculptural pieces and video work. Her work invites unpredictability as she attempts to crystalize organic, fluid materials and push matter to the point of transmutation under pressure. Heisel challenges conventional functions of matter and questions how the human experience is shaped by an innate understanding of time and space. Heisel was a resident artist at the 2024 Chautauqua School of Art Residency. She was also the 2023 recipient of the Hackney-Haight Fellowship which led to her studies in flamework at Penland School of Craft. Her exhibitions include Artfields, Tri-State Sculptors Member Exhibition, Emergence at the Bascom Center, and Passage of Time: Annual International Juried Exhibition at UNCP. Heisel studied at Wofford College, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Studio Art and Biology in 2024.
