Creativity belongs to everyone, and we want everyone to have access to create and connect at this one-of-a-kind place. McColl Center is a source of creative inspiration, growth, and support for artists and the people who care about them. You can join us during our gallery hours to build community, connect with artists, and experience the creative process.

We’re located at the corner of N. Tryon St. and 11th St. next to Charlotte Ballet and across the street from the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VAPA). With many one-way streets in uptown Charlotte, we know it can be a little challenging to navigate to our corner of town. Here are some recommendations for getting here.

From 277 South
Take exit 3B onto 11th St, Church St. toward Tryon St. Turn right onto N. Church St. just off the exit. Turn left onto 10th St. and the parking lot is just to your left at the corner of N. Church and 10th Streets.

From 277 North
Take exit 3B toward US-29, NC-49, N. Church St. Turn left onto N. Church St. Turn left onto 10th St. and the parking lot is just to your left at the corner of N. Church and 10th Streets.

Prohibited items
No outside drinks or food.

No large backpacks or bags, duffel or gym bags, or suitcases are permitted in the galleries, studios, and labs in order to protect the artwork and artists. Large items that cannot be stored in a vehicle or left at home can be temporarily placed in the storage cubes behind the Welcome Desk during your visit. McColl Center staff and artists are not responsible for the safety of your personal property or valuables while in the storage cubes behind the Welcome Desk.

Umbrellas are not permitted in the gallery, hallways, and labs and are to be placed in the umbrella stand (and, if wet, in a wet bag in the umbrella stand) in the foyer or by the Welcome Desk.

There are several entrances for you to choose from depending on where you're going in the building:

Here to see art and artists? Enter through the Front or Back Entrance for exhibitions and artist studios.

Here for a meeting? McColl Center Administrative Offices are best accessed from N. Church St.

Accessible Entrance Directions

From N. Tryon Street, the paved path along the left side of the building leads to a ramp and to the Accessible Entrance.
From N. Church Street, accessible parking in the gated lot leads directly to the Accessible Entrance. If the gate is closed, press the call button on the call box for entry.
