This CLT Shout, join us for the finale event of our Cultural Block Party: a special outdoor community screening of Wild Style. Presented in partnership with The Independent Picture House and Cine Casual.
Wild Style (1982) is a seminal hip-hop film that captures the raw energy and creative spirit of New York City’s early 1980s street culture. Following graffiti artist Zoro (Lee Quiñones), the film offers an intimate look at a movement in the making, where subway cars become canvases, street corners transform into stages, and sound systems pulse with emerging voices. Blending narrative storytelling with real-life artists and performances, the film immerses viewers in the birth of hip-hop’s four elements (graffiti, breaking, MCing, and DJing) while tracing the tensions between artistic authenticity, recognition, and commercialization. The result is a vivid, unfiltered portrait of a cultural revolution whose influence continues to shape art, music, and identity today.
Limited outdoor seating will be available. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets for lawn seating. A cash bar will also be available.
