In Agnes Buya Ng'ambi Yombwe's art, she identifies with the roles of women in traditional Zambian society - where she grew up - as it is expressed in ritual and ceremony. She is concerned with the aesthetic value of artifacts used in initiation and marriage ceremonies, and the meaning they bring to life. Whether her medium is wood, canvas, or handmade paper, Yombwe draws inspiration from south central African mask traditions and the marriage ceremony practiced by the Bemba-speaking people in Zambia's North Province.
