Alex Clark completed his BFA at Syracuse University. Upon graduation, he traveled and studied in Paris, London, and Florence. Clark is a narrative painter whose work reflects the social and political concerns of many post-modern artists, including Edward Hopper. He derives his subject matter from history, mythology, religion, and his own personal physical reality. As important artistic influences he cites the great narrative traditions of the Renaissance painters as well as modern painters including Balthus, Max Beckmann, and Jacob Lawrence.
