Artist, filmmaker, TV writer, and author Alix Lambert addresses some of society’s most potent and persistent issues. Her acclaimed documentary about Russian prisoners and their criminal tattoos entitled, The Mark of Cain, was produced in 1999. Her subsequent book, The Silencing, addresses the unsolved murders of six Russian journalists who were killed for reporting the truth on corruption at the hands of officials. The book is a tribute to the obstacles, bravery, and sometimes fatal consequences of journalists worldwide. She recently Produced and directed a feature length documentary about teen suicide and bullying at Mentor High in Mentor, Ohio which is currently making movie festival rounds. Her current project Ambiance Man could be described as a sketch comedy series. Featuring the talents of seasoned comedians including Fred Armisen and Jack Black, the project will be part of MOCAtv’s Art + Comedy programming. Lambert has produced segments of ABC’s Nightline and seven segments for the PBS series Life 360. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Venice Biennale, Italy, and Georges Pompidou Center, Paris.
During her residency at McColl Center for Art + Innovation, Lambert will continue work on CRIME USA, an ongoing project that researches the criminal justice system with the aid of Charlotte’s law enforcement officials, victims of crime, and those currently incarcerated in regional correctional facilities.
Lambert received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts, NY and received additional training at the Royal College of Art in London and the Parsons School of Design, New York. She has received residencies from The MacDowell Colony, Headlands, and The Studios of Key West.
