Anatoly Tsiris graduated from college with a teaching degree in math and science in Ukraine, but soon immigrated to the US and started working as a carpenter making furniture of his own design. Anatoly quickly became a recognizable artistic figure in Charlotte and in 2007 he received the Creative Loafing Critic’s Pick ‘Best Local Artist Award.’ He has works on permanent display at the Taylor Hodges Gallery as well as in permanent collections throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. Anatoly believes each piece of wood tells a story. He uses only previously cut trees and then shapes them, exposing each piece’s unique personality. Using only indigenous wood to this region he creates large-scale pieces that are impressive to explore his great love for the natural world.
