A “subtle yet determined environmental activist”, Aurora Robson is a multi-media artist known predominantly for her transformative work intercepting the waste stream using plastic debris, excess packaging, and junk mail. Deeply concerned about the natural environment, Robson uses her art to address urgent issues poetically, not forcefully. She is best known for assembling cast-off plastic bottles, which she colorfully paints with a specially-formulated process, into wildly inventive hanging sculptures - the smaller ones sometimes containing solar powered LED lights - and large works that fill entire rooms.
Robson is currently focusing on the development and implementation of “Sculpture and Intercepting the Waste Stream” a course she designed to foster environmental stewardship. This program will be brought to Charlotte and shared with sculpture students at Central Piedmont Community College. In addition, Robson is the founding artist of Project Vortex, an international collective of artists, designers, and architects who also work with and transform plastic debris.
