Charles McMurray received his Bachelor of Architecture from North Carolina State University and a Diploma of Civic Design from the University of Edinburgh. He worked as an architect for many years before a strong interest in building interiors led him to design and develop a collection of furniture. After 25 years and the sale of his very successful commercial furniture company, Charles turned his focus to pursuing his interest in sculpture, painting, and the graphic arts. His art is minimalist; examining the powerful influence that simplicity exerts over complexity. His sculpture of marble, granite, and bronze cubes examines the relationships between two and three-dimensional works of art by studying the shadows cast by the sculptures and representing those shadows as works on paper.
