Chris Clamp is from a small town in South Carolina called Leesville. Since childhood, art has always been a passion of his, and a way to connect with other people. After high school, he attended Winthrop University to hone his skills, and discover his voice. At Winthrop, he met several talented artists and professors that were most helpful and inspiring. He worked at Winthrop University Galleries, which then led to a job working for Jerald Melberg Gallery for 15 years. Nostalgia plays a huge role in the theme of my paintings. I choose to paint found objects, such as old toys and old tools. Many of these objects once held a place of high regard, and are now discarded, forgotten, to be discovered at garage sales or thrift stores.
I have chosen to paint these objects with a juxtaposition to space or a contrasting object to create a drama. I want the audience to draw a parallel to past and present, seeing the found objects as a reflection of oneself.
