Clarence Morgan received an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania. He has had thirty solo exhibitions since 1980 and fellowships with Art Matters, Inc., Southern Arts Federation, Bush Foundation, and the Jerome Foundation. His formal concerns in painting are firmly seeded in the language of abstraction. Citing correlations to both jazz and classical compositions, Morgan investigates the structure and elements of improvisation in his process. Ultimately, however, Morgan is "presently entertaining the notion that painting is not about profound theoretical engagement but, rather, an obsession with something much more mundane."
