Endia Beal’s photographic and video work bring voice to marginalized women in the corporate world. Her acclaimed 2013 portrait series Can I Touch It? explored gender and racial stereotypes by assigning black hairstyles to white women. The direct gaze of the subjects confront assumptions regarding social and economic status, but also present a humanizing portrayal of working women and the visual cues that fuel assumptions. During her residency, Beal will produce videos and photographs that will examine the dynamics between white men and minority women in the professional workplace.
Endia Beal received a Master of Fine Art in Photography degree from Yale University School of Art in 2013. Beal has been recognized for her work with awards including the ArtTable Fellowship in 2008, the Yale School of Art Scholarship in 2011 and 2013, and a residency at the Center for Photography at Woodstock in New York in 2013.
