As a Mexican American artist from the Midwest, my work explores the intricate connections between environmental injustice, identity, and our spiritual ties to the land and cosmos. Influenced by Latinx theories, Pre-Columbian Indigenous cosmologies, and my personal experiences, I examine how these forces shape our relationships with the earth and one another.
Using video, performance, sculpture, and installation, I create immersive experiences that highlight the body's bond with nature. Rituals, ceremonies, and physicality are central to my creative process, as I explore how ancestral wisdom and contemporary issues inform our understanding of identity and community.
Living in the Southern Borderlands has deepened my perspective on regional challenges like migration, displacement, and the balance between humans, nature, and the cosmos. My art critiques oppressive structures, confronts stereotypes, and elevates marginalized voices, aiming to inspire empathy, spark critical discussions, and drive action.
Drawing from physics, Latinx philosophies, and Mexica cosmologies, I address border issues, community resilience, and ecological struggles. Through interdisciplinary works, I explore themes of migration and cultural integration, emphasizing the strength of communities amidst political and environmental turmoil.
Ultimately, my work is a bridge to understanding, healing, and liberation, inviting audiences to unravel the complexities of the borderlands
