Gerit Grimm apprenticed as a potter in Buergel, Germany. In 2002 she received a grant from the German Government to attend the University of Michigan School of Art and Design, where she received her MA. Grimm has exhibited around the world, including venues in the United States, Japan, and Germany. With her primary exposure to the culture of the United States being from cinema, Grimm says the core exploration of her current work is to bridge the gap between the fictional America she saw in film and the everyday reality of American life.
