Julia Latane holds a BFA from the University of Arizona, Tucson. She is drawn to synthetics because of their shiny plastic nature, constructing sculptures out of synthetic material. Though her work visually refelcts an iconographic, cartoonish style, the subject matter comes from nature. She is interested in how things grow, how forms develop over time, as well as numerical patterns and sets. Like fairy tales, Julia sees her work as a kind of escapism, a refuge from the mundane, a reminder of the wonderful.
