A graduate of Media Studies program of Ryerson University’s (renamed Toronto Metropolitan University) Department of Film and Photography (1976-1981), He is the recipient of several Canada Council and Ontario Arts Council grants for his work in landscape, architectural and portrait photography. His photographic prints are included in the collection of the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, ON. Exhibitions include the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA, New Orleans Museum of Fine Art, Museum of Art and Design, Raleigh N. Carolina.

In 2000 – 2001 Schubert served as curator for the exhibition Treasures of the Soul, shown at the American Visionary Art Museum, in Baltimore, Maryland.

Since 2002 to the present, Schubert has focused his skills as being the principal curator, and Director of Publications, Exhibitions and Special Projects for the Studio of Edward Burtynsky in Toronto, Canada.
