Mary Edith received her BFA from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, and completed an MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Through her oil paintings, she examines how the perception of place is influenced by an individual's experience and memory. Architectural space is the visual point of departure for these investigations and landscape plays a critical role in her more recent work. She has become particularly interested in exploring our changing relationship to the land, which has played such a significant role in North Carolina's cultural psyche. The Southern sense of narrative is an important component of her work.
