Michael Harris received his Ph.D. from Yale University; M.Phil, History of Art, Yale University; MA, Art History, Yale University; MA, with Distinction, African and African-American Studies, Yale University; MFA, Painting, Howard University; and his BS in Education, Bowling Green State University. Michael's work has gone through several stages in recent years involving the use of shrine references, African and African Diaspora symbols and script, and assemblage. As well as incorporating old family photographs, memorial references, and stories in archival digital printmaking. A recent body of work looked at cultural tales told through the hair of African American women, particularly the ways they inscribe politics and personality by means of choices in hairstyles and color.
