Rebecca Lipps is a multifaceted artist and educator cultivating immersive experiences for the public eye. She enjoys pushing the boundaries of technology and art making to invent a new form of expression.
The process of her work involves combining her multiple disciplines such as painting, sculpting, and video installation. Rebecca puts the viewer as the epicenter of her work and many of her works are immersive in nature. Her work is often site-specific or temporary, not unlike a happening that can only be viewed at a specific time or place.
Rebecca’s work is constantly evolving due to a love for experimentation and education. She has a love for collaboration with other artists and organizations to benefit her community. She believes that collaborating with others can develop works and relationships that are beyond the studio practice. It is important to create works with a positive narrative that impact others beyond herself.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
My work explores the intersection of video and sculpture that forms a dynamic relationship between a moving image and its physical environment. My practice is rooted in the idea that movement, especially through repetition, can evoke meditative qualities. These repetitive videos breathe life into the sculptures and create a rhythm that invites a contemplative experience for my viewers.
My artistic process begins with an internal feeling, which I react to by drawing sketches to form a visual representation. The materials I primarily work with are wood, epoxy, fabric, and digital imagery. These moving images are designed not just as static objects but as interactive works. I encourage my viewers to step in front of, inside, or underneath my sculptures to enter a meditative experience by watching the video in this space.
