Sonya Clark received a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She has exhibited her work in over 250 museums and galleries internationally and has been awarded the Pollock-Krasner Award, a Rockefeller Foundation Residency, and a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship. Investigating simple objects as cultural interfaces, Sonya Clark is drawn to objects that connect to her personal narrative, creating a springboard for a work of art's form, scale, and material. In her work, otherwise passive objects acquire the ability to reflect and absorb a viewer's belief, creating a lens through which we may better see one another.
