Storytelling through Photography is a step-by-step tutorial that will turn your photos into one cohesive story. In this 20-minute art lesson, Charlotte-based artist Micah Cash will show you how to create a clear and compelling narrative with your photographs. Whether you are hanging family photographs on a wall, creating a scrapbook or photo album, or sequencing images for an artist book, gather your photographs and learn how to better communicate your story! Best for ages 10 and up.

Investigating how land use and social history influence cultural geography, Micah Cash’s photography uses the visual languages of landscape and architecture to explore the narrative of his subject matter.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to tell better stories with your photographs and family memories
  • How to sequence your images
  • How to think about the composition when considering your storyline

What you’ll need to create:

  • A collection of photographs (This could be family images, travel images, personal photographs, or fine art photographs)
  • A means for organizing and displaying the photographs: a scrapbook, your wall, a book you want to make, or simply take notes
  • Optional: Additional mementos that could compliment your story (For example: receipts, tickets, or a dried flower)
