Opening Studio Spaces to Local Artists

Art thrives when artists do.

That’s why we are making space at McColl Center to provide tangible resources for more local and regional artists in the Charlotte area. In addition to championing artists through our nationally acclaimed artist residency program in Uptown Charlotte, we have expanded our commitment to working artists in our community through the launch of our Studio Rental Program.

“Finding and retaining affordable studio space in Charlotte is an ongoing challenge for artists. I’m excited about McColl Center’s studio rental program. Local artists will not only have a stable, creative space to work in, but they will find additional support in the form of equipment and a thriving creative community to expand their practice,” says McColl Center’s creative director, Jonell Logan.

The program offers studio space to nine artists at below-market rates in our historic building on North Tryon Street, with access to upgraded printmaking, sculpture, sculpture, ceramic, 3-D, woodworking, and media labs. Artists may apply for a one-year lease, with the option to renew for an additional year.

In partnership with Charlotte is Creative, a HUG Micro-Grant for a four-month studio rental is also available to creatives working in Charlotte.

As announced on the CreativeMornings/Charlotte broadcast live from McColl Center’s gallery on April 2, 2021, applications are open to all professional artists through April 30 for the upcoming year.
